'Ticket To Write' festival comes to The Beatles Story
It is a truth universally acknowledged that John Lennon and Paul McCartney were two of the greatest, cleverest writers in popular music. With this in mind, they would surely approve of the fantastic “Ticket to Write” competition, which is being run by 'Ace Drama'.
Entrants have been invited submit plays of fifteen minutes themed around The Beatles and – this being 2013, the year that would have marked George Harrison's 70th birthday – George in particular. A shortlist of eight finalists has been drawn up and each fifteen minute play will be performed on Tuesday the 13th July at Liverpool's Unity Theatre. This is a wonderful opportunity for budding writers and actors to show their work to a wider audience and receive plenty of exposure. Unfortunately, the closing date for the competition has now passed, but don't worry, you can get busy polishing your entry for next year and you can go along on the night to sample the eight plays chosen for the final, which will be performed back-to-back. One lucky winner will bag a prize of £150 on the night, not to mention lots of local press.
In the 'chill-out zone' section of The Beatles Story on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May some preview performances of the plays were shown throughout the day. Both fans of acting and writing and fans of The Beatles came along to The Beatles Story and enjoyed some great Beatle-themed drama!
