Expansion ProgrammeWorld Famous Beatles Story Visitor Attraction to Double in Size!
The Beatles Story Liverpool has announced a major expansion programme, which will more than double the existing floor space to provide new exhibition areas and vastly improved visitor facilities.
The improvements, which will greatly enhance Liverpool’s tourism product, are expected to open in spring 2008 to coincide with the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.
Following on from two years of record growth in visitor numbers, the Beatles Story now anticipates significantly greater growth in the next few years. Much of this growth will be driven by the 2008 celebrations and the opening of Liverpool’s Arena and Conference Centre, the Liverpool 1 shopping centre and many new hotels, as well as a tremendous number of new direct flights into Liverpool’s John Lennon airport and the opening of the Cruise Liner Terminal.
The planned expansion will include:
• ‘Going Solo’ – a new gallery dedicated to the solo careers of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
• A “hands-on” interactive discovery centre – this is part of the Beatles Story’s commitment to life-long learning and will greatly enhance the visitor experience for both school groups and families.
• A “family friendly” version of the Living History audio guide.
• A new special exhibition space to host themed changing exhibitions throughout the year.
• A Café and relaxation area to complete the experience.
• Improved orientation area with enhanced group facilities.
Jerry Goldman, Director of the Beatles Story, commented: “We are delighted to announce the new developments at our multi-award winning attraction. The Beatles Story wholeheartedly supports Liverpool’s Capital of Culture status and we look forward to welcoming more visitors from across the globe. Providing translated versions of our Living History audio guide in seven languages has demonstrated the fantastic welcome we offer overseas visitors – a welcome that is unique in both Liverpool and the entire UK”
Martin King, Director of Tourism at The Mersey Partnership said: “Such developments enhance the quality of the city's welcome and the overall experience of visiting Liverpool. Developments such as this are to be applauded as they also improve the city's reputation as a premier international visitor destination”
