Lift update January 2025

We would like to update our visitors on the current situation regarding the entrance and exit lift at The Beatles Story.

As you may be aware, the lift at The Beatles Story has been out of action now for some time. Before Christmas, our engineers successfully fitted all the required parts to the lift. However, due to the natural movement of our Grade I listed building, the lift has moved, and its safety mechanisms have activated, rendering it inoperable. These safety features are essential to ensure no risks are posed to visitors.

The engineers attempted to secure the lift with new fixings but determined that a bespoke external bracket is now required. Given the listed status of the building, we needed landlord consent to proceed. This consent has been granted, but we must also seek Heritage and Listed Building Planning Consent before any further work can begin.

We are actively working to obtain the necessary approvals, but until the bespoke bracket can be installed, the lift will remain out of use. We will provide updates as soon as we have a clearer timeline for this process.

Additionally, we are in discussions with our landlords at The Royal Albert Dock to explore solutions and address the unique challenges associated with being situated in a Grade I listed building.

We regret any disappointment this situation may cause for visitors requiring accessible entry and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work towards a resolution.
