A signed rare programme from The Beatles’ Christmas Show at the Gaumont Cinema, Bradford has gone onto display at The Beatles Story.
From 1963 to 1969, The Beatles liked to celebrate the Christmas season with their fans, and would send spoken and musical messages on flexi disc to members of their fan club.
The group also performed live in special Christmas concerts alongside a variety of other acts. This programme is taken from the Gaumont Cinema concert in Bradford, which took place on December 21, 1963.
This was the first of two preview concerts held in the North of England, prior to The Beatles’ 16-night Christmas Show at the Astoria in London, starting December 24. The owner was lucky enough to have the programme signed by all four members of The Beatles after the show.
The Fab Four performed nine songs that day, including ‘Roll Over Beethoven’, ‘All My Loving’, ‘This Boy’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’, ‘She Loves You’, ‘Till There Was You’, ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’ and ‘Twist And Shout’.
Gaumont Cinema became a significant venue for The Beatles. In addition to performing this preview, they also opened their first UK tour there in February 1963, and started their 1964 British Tour at the venue in October 1964.
